Nine Pinterest-approved spring / summer 2017 trends
The talented team behind popular social platform Pinterest cleverly keeps tabs on the most-pinned trends to compile a style report each season. Here is what you can expect to see a lot more of over the coming weeks in the world of interior design:
Pretty in pink
There is no real surprise that pink is making a comeback for spring and summer. As it works so beautifully with the copper, silver and gold accessories that have been so popular over the last 12 months, we are welcoming pink tones with open arms. We recommend avoiding bright Barbie pink shades and instead opting for softer, vintage pink hues to up the sophistication factor in your space.
Everything marble has been wildly popular for about a year, and this trend does not seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. The real deal is pricy, but marble-inspired designs are everywhere right now and it is sublimely simple to incorporate a touch of this trend on a budget. Marble wallpaper is going to be the next big thing - opt for a soft white and grey design for a chilled, minimalistic vibe or something more colourful if you want to make a slightly more unusual style statement.
We are huge fans of this trend for obvious reasons and we have been singing the praises of acrylic and glass furniture for forever because we love how adaptable it is. From smaller acrylic desk storage and magazine stands to larger glass coffee or console tables, incorporating clear pieces into your space is one of the easiest things you can do.
Greenery is Pantone’s colour of the year and the perfect way to incorporate this hue into your home is by introducing a variety of houseplants. Cacti and succulents are easy to look after, and expect to see plenty of climbing plants in interior magazines over the coming weeks.
Wallpaper is brilliant; however, if you do not want to commit to such a dramatic transformation, wall stickers are sure to become your new BFF. Available in just about every design you could possibly think of, a wall sticker can spice up your space for as long as you want. Stickers are easily removable when you fancy a change.
Storage options are not always the most stylish, which is why wicker baskets, vintage suitcases and trunks are experiencing something of a revival. Not only are they perfect for stashing away important documents and objects that will probably come in handy one day but also they are aesthetically pleasing and work well within many different interior aesthetics. Displaying your current favourite fashion pieces on a clothing rack in your bedroom or dressing room is also incredibly popular and is a great way to build your seasonal wardrobe with pieces that work well together and get more for your money by using them as décor when you are not wearing them.
Navy blue is the new black
Rich enough to provide the depth and opulence a room needs but never looking too overpowering, navy works well with greys and whites for a relaxing ambience and perfectly complements bright pops of coral, red or green if a more statement look is more your style.
With so much going on in the world, we do not think it is too much of a surprise that people are transforming their homes into cosy, comfortable sanctuaries they can retreat into after a long and busy day. We recommend mixing natural materials with textured soft furnishings - think wooden floors, reclaimed wooden fireplaces, intricate rugs and plenty of cushions.
Off-beat wall décor
Adorning your walls with your jewellery, hats and other accessories is a brilliant way to instantly personalise your space. It will be incredibly easy to switch things up when you fancy a change and you will always know exactly where to find your favourite statement necklace!
