This is what natural optimism looks like
British tea company Twinings has paired up with renowned colour expert Pantone to officially identify the colour of optimism. The airy, cheerful shade of blue, which has been named Natural Optimism, has been especially designed to provide us all with a boost every time we look at it. As it looks almost identical to a clear sky on a warm summer’s afternoon, we think an excellent colour selection has been made.
Research suggests, perhaps unsurprisingly, that such turbulent global events are having a negative impact on our sense of optimism. Over 10 million Brits do not feel any sense of optimism within their daily lives; however, almost half indicate that their mood is often lifted when they are greeted by blooming flowers and a clear blue sky.
Although you may be tempted to suggest a sunshine yellow or a vibrant orange when asked to name a cheerful or optimistic colour, sky blue has an instant association with spring and summer and this colour choice quickly begins to make sense. The team at Pantone has made sure that Natural Optimism has received an injection of warmth, with its slight yellow undertone further emphasising its connections with calm, sunshine-filled afternoons.
When we feel more optimistic, we are generally more open to trying new experiences and feel able to make positive decisions that will improve our overall wellbeing. Although the British weather does not always cooperate, even in the height of summer, there are a variety of other ways to ensure you always get your daily dose of Natural Optimism.
Three simple ways to incorporate Natural Optimism into your home
Place a bunch of blue hydrangeas in a vase on your coffee or side table. When you sit down at the end of a long and busy day, being greeted by these blooms should help you to unwind and relax.
If your sleeping space is due for a bit of a refresh, incorporating a light blue accent wall will help to create a relaxing atmosphere that will help you to get a great night’s sleep and ensure you feel fully rejuvenated in the morning. A bright and airy space should also make it easier for your body to wake up, quickly leaving you feeling ready to face the day.
Even something as simple as drinking your morning coffee from a light blue mug can make a huge difference. There is something inherently lovely about light blue accessories, especially tableware, and this is surprisingly versatile. Style with crisp white for a romantic aesthetic or introduce a vibrant splash of orange for something a little more contemporary.
